Umm so I’m 15 years old and I’m a guy and around last June which was 8 months ago I had a big hair loss because I kept scratching my head with my nails. I don’t know what this type of scalp damage or hair loss it is called but I was just wondering if it is too late to get my hair back to normal since it has been more than 8 months.

Hi Chris,
Luckily, it is never too late for a hair cure when your hair loss is temporary. However, if your hair loss is permanent, then, unfortunately, hair regrowth may be unlikely without medication or a hair transplantation. While your hair loss is likely to be associated with scalp damage, there may be other causes to your hair loss that you aren’t aware of.
The following are some common types of hair loss, and they can occur to teenagers as easily as they can affect adults:
Alopecia areata is a form of temporary hair loss that can occur on the scalp, in facial hair, or even in hair on other areas of the body. It can be caused by genetic factors or it can occur as a result of autoimmune disorders like thyroid disease. For unknown reasons, the immune system attacks the hair root and causes hair loss. It may go away on its own, or may last for many years. It is, however, not contagious.
Telogen effluvium results in sudden and drastic, although temporary, hair loss. Patients with telogen effluvium usually experience overall thinning, and they are known to lose handfuls of hair while washing or using a hairbrush. It is caused by a shock to the system, such as an illness, intense psychological stress over a life incident, sudden weight loss, or nutritional deficiencies. Once the experience is over, however, natural hair cycles should return to normal.
Traction alopecia is another type of temporary hair loss that creates bald patches due to unnecessary pulling of the hair or constant use of tight hairstyles that can strain or damage hair follicles. Hair growth should return to normal once the strain on follicles is eliminated.
Because hair loss is not too common amongst teenagers, it is important for a teenager who is suffering from hair loss or thinning to visit a qualified physician who can correctly diagnose the problem and offer the appropriate treatment or solution. You can find much more information about what could be causing your hair loss and the available treatment options at Bosley. Bosley physicians are hair loss experts who can diagnose the specific cause of your case and recommend appropriate treatment options free of charge.
In the meanwhile, one of the easiest ways to promote hair growth is through your diet. Make sure your diet is rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin B, silica, calcium, and iron to reduce or prevent hair loss. These minerals and vitamins can be obtained through a balanced diet. Some foods you should add to your diet to increase hair health include: fruits, vegetables, dairy, lean healthy meats, fish, legumes, unsaturated fats, and water. Try to avoid high amounts of fatty foods and high amounts of Vitamin A in your diet as these have been shown to cause hair loss. Another solution to promote hair growth is to not stress over it too much.
I hope that helps answer your question!
I think the guy above me has stolen the answers from my mouth, lol.
Pretty much what he said, give or take a few things.
Definitely go visit a doctor, a dermatologist would be prime.
